Mexico SB517-72602r.jpg
Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 538

The first specimen was lot 72602 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1845-GoPM. NGC AU-53. Difficult date to locate. Weakly struck, but with good luster." The second specimen was lot 538 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £140 (about US$217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Republic, 1 escudo, Guanajuato mint, 1845 PM, very fine. Ex A.N.A. auction, Superior, Aug. 1975, lot 2215." This date is extremely rare according to Richard Long.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-98; KM-379.4.
