This specimen was lot 1822 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €240 (about US$290 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AR écu au bandeau, 1748A, Paris. D/ T. à g., ceinte d'un bandeau. R/ Ecu de France couronné, entre deux rameaux d'olivier. Rare Nettoyé. Fines traces d'ajustage. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, silver écu of the hair ribbon of 1748, Paris mint. Obverse: head left, hair tied in a ribbon; reverse: crowned arms of France between two olive branches. Rare, cleaned, fine adjustment marks, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
The Paris mint struck this type 1740-70 without interruption. Mintages were usually substantial tho less than that of Bayonne in the south.
Recorded mintage: 55,416, slightly scarce[2]
Specification: 29.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. This specimen 29,24 g.
