This specimen was lot 20456 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 2 Louis d'Or, 1748-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Louis XV. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Nice even strike, no noticeable defects, lustrous and attractive. From the Dr. Morgan Collection." This type was struck 1742-73 in some numbers but the Strasbourg mint issued this type 1742-49, 1756-64, 1766-72 only. It was succeeded by the double louis d'or à la vieille tête.
