This specimen was lot 4707 in Goldberg sale 65 (Los Angeles, September 2011), where it sold for $862.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Ecu, 1747-E (Tours). Louis XV. Head with headband left. Some adjustment marks. Toned. NGC graded EF-45." The type was struck 1740-70 and is recorded for the Tours mint (mintmark "E") for 1741-57, 1760-71; most dates from Tours are very rare and the mint was closed in 1771.
