Shown is an 1812MoHJ half real, one of a type struck in Mexico 1808-14. The "imaginary bust" shown of Ferdinand VII (used because Ferdinand was rotting in a French prison) was superseded by the "standard bust" used 1815-21. Assayer JJ is recorded for the years 1812-21; assayer HJ is also reported for 1811-13. The HJ is listed as common, the JJ as scarce along with an 1812/1 overdate. The first specimen was lot 4098 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $82.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. ½ Real, 1812-Mo HJ. Ferdinand VII. Armored laureate bust right. Attractively toned and lustrous. NGC graded MS-61."

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 1.69 g, .896 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-15074, KM 73.
