Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43381

This specimen was lot 43381 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, Year 14-I (1805/6). Limoges Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Mintage: . A RARE and difficult type, this specimen remains largely without much in the way of circulation, with some alluring brilliance and elegant golden-olive toning around the devices. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Albuquerque in 1989 for $753). Ex: Cabinet Numismatique Albuquerque (10/1989) Lot # 232." This type was struck years 12-14 of which the An 13-A, 13-M and 14-A are the common dates. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 6,287, a rare date.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, lettered edge.
