This specimen was lot 3838 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $3,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Tunisia. 40 Dinars, 1967. On the 10th Anniversary of Republic. Head of President Habib Bourguiba. Reverse: Grand Mosque at Kairouan. NGC graded Proof 65 Ultra Cameo." This rare issue was accompanied by gold two, five, ten and twenty dinars. Habib Bourgiba helped obtain independence for Tunisia from France and survived as its ruler until his ouster in 1987.
