This specimen was lot 355 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA, 5 dinars 1968ce/1388ah AU, Arabic legend -xf." This type was struck in small numbers 1967-82 with Arabic and French legends (KM 325a). The French legends type was introduced in 1972. It is unlikely to have circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters. It is rare but inexpensive because of low demand.
Recorded mintage: 550 proofs.
Specification: 9.41 g, 0.900 fine gold, .270 troy oz AGW, this specimen 9.37 g.
