Tunisia 1978 5 dinars
This specimen was lot 25681 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 5 Dinars 1978, Proof 65 NGC, nicely mirrored surfaces, mintage unknown but presumably very low." This issue is unlisted in the edition of the SCWC mentioned below but may appear in a more current edition. Habib Bourgiba, whose bust adorns the obverse, led the struggle for independence from France in 1956 and ruled the country until senility forced his ouster in the 1980's. It seems unlikely that this coin or the accompanying ten dinars ever circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 9.412 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.272 troy oz AGW.
