This specimen was lot 3826 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $3,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Somalia. 500 Shillings, 1965. On the 5th Anniversary of Independence. President Osman facing. NGC graded Proof 67 Ultra Cameo." This type was issued in sets with gold 20, fifty, 100 and 200 shillings, most likely distributed to the president's friends and cronies.

Recorded mintage: 6,325.

Specification: 70 g, 0.900 fine gold, 2.025 troy oz AGW.
