This specimen was lot 27190 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Teutonic Order. Karl of Austria Taler 1623, VF, darkly toned. Despite a clipped edge and deep reverse scratch, this is an uncommon one-year type missing from many Early Modern crown cabinets." Altho the Teutonic Order is best remembered in history for its activities in Prussia and Latvia, these scarce thalers were minted for them in Hall in Tyrol.
