Brunswick-Harburg 1623 thaler Dav-6405
This specimen was lot 955 in Jean Elsen sale 114 (Brussels, September 2012) where it sold for €120 (about US$185 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-HARBURG, Wilhelm (1603-1642), AR Taler, 1623, Harburg. Droit: B. cuirassé à droite, le col fraisé. Revers: Ecu surmonté de trois heaumes. Petits défauts de flan au revers. Très Beau. (Germany, Brunswick-Harburg, William (1603-42), silver thaler of 1623, Harburg mint. Obverse: armored bust to right with ruffed collar; reverse: Arms with three helmets. Planchet flaws, Very fine.)"
This type is listed for 1620-31 but is scarce despite the continuous production. Duke Wilhelm was the last ruler of Brunswick-Harburg which reverted to Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle on his death.
