Kempten 1623 thaler Dav-5427
This specimen was lot 333 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 1150 CHF (about US$1,312 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND, Kempten, Stadt, Taler 1623. Titel Ferdinand II. Wappen auf gekrönter Wappenkartusche, umher drei kleine Wappen. Rv. Geharnischtes, belorbeertes Brustbild des Kaisers mit grosser Halskrause nach rechts. Hksp. Rv. Kr. Sehr schön." (City of Kempten, taler of 1623, in the name of Fredinand II. Obverse: crowned arms, three smaller shields around; reverse: ruffed, laureate, bearded bust of the emperor facing right. Reverse adjustment marks, Very Fine.)
This one year type is rare and expensive. The city was annexed to Bavaria in 1803.
