Spain 1842-B CC 80 reales
This specimen was lot 3126 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$455 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SPAIN | Königreich. Isabella II. 1833-1868. 80 Reales 1842 B-PS, Barcelona. Gutes sehr schön. Randfehler. (kingdom of Spain, Isabella II, 1833-68, eighty reales of 1842, Barcelona mint. Good very fine, Edge flaw.)"
This type was struck at Barcelona (shown here), Madrid and Seville 1837-49 in sufficient numbers that it is one of the more common Spanish gold coins of the period. This particular issue, however, is a key date that did not sell for anything close to catalog value. It is the same size as the old two escudos struck in Ferdinand's time.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold. This specimen is 6.73 g.
