Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 691

This specimen was lot 691 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €160 (about US$211 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1842. Isabel II. Jubia. 1 maravedí. Parte de brillo original. Bellísima. Ex Colección Anastasia de Quiroga 28/04/2011, nº 1. Escasa así. S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, one maravedi of 1842, Jubia mint. Exquisite, some origina luster, scarce thus, about uncirculated.)"

The one maravedi was an unpopular denomination and was struck only sporadically. This denomination was struck for Isabel II during 1842-43 from Jubia (shown here), Segovia and Madrid. Only the 1842-J and 1842-Seg are available.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: copper, 1.01-1.88 g, 14.3-14.6 mm diameter, this specimen 1,25 g.
