Aureo sale 233, lot 248

This specimen was lot 248 in Aureo y Calicó sale 233 (Barcelona, April 2011), where it sold for 550 euros (about US$916 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1842. Madrid. CL. 1 real. Bella. Brillo original. Muy rara y más así. S/C-. (One real of 1842, Madrid mint, handsome, original luster, very rare, about Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in Madrid 1837-49 and Seville in 1840; this date is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 6,468.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, .039 troy oz ASW (not 3.38 g as stated in the SCWC), 14.2-14.6 mm diameter,.
