Aureo 233, lot 246

This specimen was lot 246 in Aureo y Calicó sale 233 (Barcelona, April 2011), where it sold for 160 euros (about US$266 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1839. Madrid. CL. 1 real. Bella. Brillo original. EBC+ (One real of 1839, Madrid mint, handsome, original luster, choice Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck for Spain in Madrid 1837-49 and Seville in 1840; this is a better date.

Recorded mintage: 29,722.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, .039 troy oz ASW (not 3.38 g as stated in the SCWC), 14.2-14.6 mm diameter,.
