Aureo sale 233, lot 429

This specimen was lot 429 in Aureo y Calicó sale 233 (Barcelona, April 2011), where it sold for 1600 euros (about US$2,664 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1841. Madrid. CL. 10 reales. Preciosa pátina. Muy rara así. EBC+. (Ten reales of 1841, Madrid mint, beautiful patina, very rare thus, choice Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck for Spain in Madrid 1840-45 and Seville 1841-43. This specimen is a common date for the type but the type is scarce overall.

Recorded mintage: 70,227.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW (same size as the old four reales).
