Spain 1840-M DG 10 reales
This specimen was lot 430 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €2,700 (about US$3,563 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1840. Isabel II. Madrid. DG (Departamento de Grabado). 10 reales. Muy bella. Parte de brillo original. Ex Colección Isabel de Trastámara 29/10/2015, nº 1171. Rarísima. EBC+/S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, ten reales of 1840, Madrid mint, assayer's initials DG (department of engraving). Very handsome, some original luster, extremely rare, extremely fine to about uncirculated.)"
This rare pattern very closely resembles the regular issue of 1840-45.
Recorded mintage: unknown but probably about 10.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW (same size as the old four reales), this specimen 13,39 g.
