This specimen was lot 1897 in Goldberg sale 112 (Los Angeles, September 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain. 80 Reales, 1840-RD (Seville). Isabel II, 1833-1868. De Vellon coinage. Head right. Reverse: Crowned arms. Sparkling mint luster. NGC graded MS-62." The type was issued from Barcelona, Seville and Madrid 1837-49. It is the same size as the old two escudos struck in Ferdinand's time.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a slightly better date.
Specification: 21 mm diameter, 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
