Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 73050

This specimen was lot 73050 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Maravedis, 1842. Segovia Mint. Isabel II. NGC MS-64 Brown. A lovely coin with a sterling portrait of the queen. Quite clean fields, and a strong strike. Most unusual to find such a high quality copper that is almost two hundred years old." This type was struck in Jubia, Segovia and Barcelona 1837-50 and was accompanied by copper one, four and eight maravedis. The type is not scarce.

Specification: copper, 3.02 g, 18.5-19.5 mm diameter.
