This specimen was lot 31139 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August II Taler 1742/1-FWoF MS64 NGC, Dresden mint. Encouraged by a bold strike and a patina that is visually outstanding with various shades of electrifying color. Across the numerous dates for this type, the specimen at hand outweighs the rest as the top technical grade in the census and is worthy of bids commensurate with this fact. Ex. Heritage Auction #410 (June 2006, Lot 12937)." This type was struck 1734-56 and is scarce despite the lengthy years of production. The elector's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.80 g, 0.875 fine silver.

Catalog reference: cf. KM 880 (unlisted overdate), cf. Dav-2665 (same).
