Saxony 1741 thaler rev Ponterio 173-1292.jpg

This specimen was lot 1292 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1741. Friedrich August II (1733-63). Toned. NGC AU Details--Edge Filing. From the Demarete Collection." This scarce type is listed in the SCWC for 1741 only. Most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760 are scarce. The elector's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.34-28.80 g, silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2669; KM-907.
