This specimen was lot 926 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 32,000 (about US$40,102 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Rouble 1899, St. Petersburg Mint, ЭБ. Very rare as a proof! Brilliant uncirculated proof with attractive patina." In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798. This type was struck 1894-1915.
Recorded mintage: 6,503,000 plus proofs (both assayers).
