This specimen was lot 36506 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Rubles, 1899-O3. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. NGC MS-63." This type was struck 1897-1911 in sufficient numbers as to be considered a bullion coin. At the time of issue, 8 French gold francs = 3 Russian gold rubles.
Recorded mintage: 20,400,000 including assayer ЭБ.
Specification: 4.30 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.1244 troy oz AGW.
