This specimen was lot 32160 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia: Nicholas II Proof 50 Kopecks 1899-ЭБ PR63 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Fully captivating with only 4 examples of this date-assayer combination appearing in the NGC census, perfect satin frosting atop the devices and creating a mildly cameo contrast against the fields." This is a common date of a type struck 1895-1914; three assayers are recorded for the year. The fifty kopeks replaced the old poltina or half ruble.
Recorded mintage: 15,442,000, including assayers AG and FZ.
