Russia 1901-FZ ruble Dav-293
This specimen was lot 31629 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Nicholas II Rouble 1901 ФЗ MS64 NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Obv. Bust left. Rev. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with date and value. Fully brilliant, satiny surfaces, with bold details and a hint of golden toning. A conditionally rare issue, with only three pieces certified finer by NGC (all MS65)." In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798. This type was struck 1894-1915.
Recorded mintage: 2,608,000 plus proofs (both assayers).
