Regensburg 1645 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 3123 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,837 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/2 Reichstaler 1645 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1644 geändert), mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hans Siegmund Federer. R Hübsche Patina, leicht justiert, kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, fast vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, half thaler of 1645, 1645/4 overdate, in the name of Ferdinand III. Rare, handsome patina, light adjustment marks, small edge defects, about extremely fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1644-46. The portrait of the emperor rarely appeared on the city's coinage in the seventeenth century.
