Regensburg 1646 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 3124 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €440 (about US$577 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/2 Reichstaler 1646 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1645 geändert), mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hans Siegmund Federer. RR Feine Patina, sehr schön. (city of Regensburg, half thaler of 1646, 1646/5 overdate, in the name of Ferdinand III. Very rare, fine patina, very fine.)"
This scarce type was struck 1644-46. The portrait of the emperor rarely appeared on the city's coinage in the seventeenth century.
