Künker sale 405, lot 3112

This specimen was lot 3112 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €11,500 (about US$15,089 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. Reichstaler 1644 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1643 geändert), mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hans Siegmund Federer. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Kabinettstück. Hübsche Patina, kl. Stempelfehler, fast Stempelglanz. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 62 (6645572-007). (city of Regensburg, thaler of 1644, 1644/3 overdate, in the name of Ferdinand III. Very scarce, especially in this quality, cabinet piece, handsome patina, small die breaks, about uncirculated. Graded NGC MS-62.)"

This type was struck 1643-44 only. The city of Regensburg issued a considerable variety of thalers after 1623 but all are rare.
