Künker sale 335, lot 3724

This specimen was lot 3724 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,188 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich (III.) I. 1701-1713. 1/3 Taler 1702, HFH, Magdeburg. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick I, 1701-13, one-third thaler of 1702, Magdeburg mint. Very rare, nice patina, a planchet defect, about extremely fine.)"

Friedrich I was the first king of Prussia, being promoted in 1701 from elector of Brandenburg. This rare type was struck 1701-07 and 1711.

Recorded mintage: 18,360.

Specification: 8.66 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 8.31 g.
