This type was struck 1975-78. The peso has steadily shrunk since its introduction as a silver dollar sized coin in 1903 but was minted to this standard 1975-89. This specimen is a proof from the Franklin Mint. The one piso coin now has a face value of US$.019 (April 2019).
Recorded mintage: 10,000 (M) + 1,826 (U) + 9,901 (P), all Franklin Mint, + 30,000,000 for circulation.
Specification: 9.5 g, copper-nickel, 29 mm diameter.
