Philippines 1976 250 pesos
This specimen was lot 1426 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $4,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "PHILIPPINES: Republic, AR 250 pesos, 1976, 39 mm, selectively gilt bust of Marcos left within partial circle of stars and FERDINAND E. MARCOS below, with THIRTY YEARS OF FREEDOM - 250 PESOS around all // Philippines coat of arms with 'REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS - 1976' around, reeded edge, PCGS graded Proof 67 CAM, RRR. This piece is an enigmatic one, with no examples found on the search engines, and nothing in a general internet search. It seems to be a private pattern issue, perhaps by the Letcher Mint and similar to their Minerva and Solomon Islands issues of the mid-1970s. This is also the only example listed on the PCGS Population Report." The Letcher Mint was a mint based in the Lancaster, California, area which operated from 1972 until around 1981. The mint produced a few one ounce bars and rounds.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: silver, 39 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM unlisted.
