Shown is a Marcos-era commemorative of the Philippines. "Ang Bagong Lipunan" means "The New Society," i.e., a society free from corruption that ironically, Marcos and his cronies were practicing. A silver 50 piso (KM 212) was issued at the same time. The currency, which was called pesos and centavos during the American colonial period, was reformed in 1969 and renamed "piso" and "sentimo" which were the Tagalog translations. Locals, however, continue to use the old names.
Recorded mintage: 23,000 plus 13,000 proofs.
Specification: 9.95 g, 0.900 fine gold, .2879 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 213.
