The currency of the Philippines, which was called pesos and centavos during the American colonial period, was reformed in 1969 and renamed "piso" and "sentimo" which were the Tagalog translations. Locals, however, continue to use the old names. This type was struck 1967-74 and demonetized 1998. Inflation had rendered it worthless long before. The obverse bust is of poet Francisco Baltasar (1788-1862). He appeared on various issues of the ten centimos (KM 207, KM 226, KM 240) until 1994.
Recorded mintage: 60,208,000 minted in Denver and San Francisco.
Specification: 2 g, nickel brass, 17.85 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 198.
