Philippines 1974 piso rev DSLR.jpg

The currency of the Philippines, which was called pesos and centavos during the American colonial period, was reformed in 1969 and renamed "piso" and "sentimo" which were the Tagalog translations. Locals, however, continue to use the old names. This type was struck at the Denver and San Francisco mints in 1972 and 1974, although the 1974 proofs were actually struck in 1975. It was demonetized in 1998.

Recorded mintage: 65,002,178 plus 10,000 proofs.

Specification: 14.43 g, copper-nickel-zinc, 33 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Frank Gasparro.

Catalog reference: KM 203.
