This specimen was lot 3774 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peru. 50 Soles, 1965. 400th Anniversary of Lima Mint. NGC graded MS-66." This specimen was struck to commemorate the fourth centennial of the founding of the Lima mint in 1565. It was accompanied by a range of coins in brass and silver. Altho every specimen minted is presumably still in collectors' hands, it does not appear often.

Recorded mintage: 17,000.

Specification: 23.405 g, 0.900 fine gold, .677 troy oz AGW.
