Peru 1965-ZBR libra

from the Stack's Bowers 2019 NYINC sale, lot 43803

This specimen was lot 43803 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $384. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PERU. Libra, 1965-ZBR. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. Lustrous. Struck to the standard of a British Sovereign." The gold libra superseded the silver sol as Peru's main unit of currency in 1898. The libra weighed the same as a British sovereign and equalled ten soles. The type was struck until 1930 and again 1959-69, along with 1/5 libras and 1/2 libras.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2354 troy oz AGW, reeded edge.
