This type was issued to commemorate the four hundredth anniversary of the opening of the Lima mint in 1565. It is accompanied by five centavos (KM 290), ten centavos (KM 237), twenty-five centavos (KM 238) and half sol (KM 239) in brass, twenty soles in silver (KM 241) and fifty soles in gold (KM 242). Various brass one sol coins, of ever shrinking diameter, were struck until 1981.
Recorded mintage: 3,103,000 plus 5,504,000 of the regular issue (KM 222).
Specification: 9 g, brass, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
