This specimen was lot 25277 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 100 Soles 1965, MS65 NGC, 400th anniversary of the Lima Mint, full mint brilliance, scarce in this select quality." This specimen was struck to commemorate the fourth centennial of the founding of the Lima mint in 1565. It was accompanied by a range of coins in brass and silver. Altho every specimen minted is presumably still in collectors' hands, it does not appear often.
Recorded mintage: 27,000.
Specification: 46.80 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.3544 oz AGW.
