Aureo sale 232, lot 235

The specimen shown was lot 235 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 400 euros (about US$660 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1792. Lima. IJ. 8 reales. Muy bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. S/C-. (Eight reales of 1792, Lima mint; attractive with original luster, about uncirculated.)

This type was issued from Lima 1791-1808. The SCWC lists a 1972/1 overdate but awards it no premium.

Recorded mintage: 4,661,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
