This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, of a type struck 1792-1808 using the standard bust of Charles IV. The year 1792 is a rare date and the bust used is slightly larger than that appearing on later dates. This type is the most numerous of one escudo issues from Peru but it is much scarcer than contemporary dates from Mexico or Colombia.
