Peru 1792-L IJ 4 reales
This specimen was lot 3582 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU: Carlos IV, 1788-1808, AR 4 reales, 1792-LIMAE, assayer IJ, lightly cleaned with a few cleaning scratches, VF-XF." This specimen is one of a series struck 1791-1808 for Charles IV. This date features a local bust of the king. As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. The four reales is scarce compared to the eight reales, minted in large numbers. Assayer "IJ" is noted for the years 1788-1803.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .390 troy oz ASW.
