Aureo sale 238, lot 450

This specimen was lot 450 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 175 euro (about US$278 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1792. Potosí. PR. 8 reales. Buen ejemplar. Parte de brillo original. Escasa así. EBC-. (eight reales of 1792, Potosí mint. Nice example, lustrous, scarce thus, about extremely fine.)"

The SCWC lists this second year of the type about 20% higher than the common dates. The assayer PR appears for 1776-95.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 27.07 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
