Bolivia 1792-PTS PR 2 reales
This specimen was lot 75143 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $129. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 2 Reales, 1792-PTS PR. Potosi Mint. Charles IV. PCGS VF-35. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1791-1809. The bust used on the 1791 is distinctly larger than that used on later dates, a phenomenon noted on the other denominations as well. Harris[2] notes that Potosi two reales of Charles IV outnumber those of Mexico City as the the commonest mint by about five to four. Assayer PR served 1776-95.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a somewhat better date.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.896 fine silver.
Catalog reference: Cayón-13548, KM-71; Cal-656.
