This specimen was lot 75727 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $195.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1791-LIMAE IJ. Lima Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Variety with "CAROLUS IIII" in legend and bust of Charles IV. From the Richard August Collection." This transitional type was issued 1791-1808. Altho Harris found only one-third as many Lima eight reales of Charles IV as that of Mexico, this type is still common. The minor denominations depict a local bust of Charles IV but this eight reales shows the standard bust used at all the mints. Eight reales equal all the other silver denominations put together. Assayer "IJ" is noted for the years 1787-1803.
