Aureo sale 238, lot 80

This specimen was lot 80 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 460 euro (about US$730 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1791. Guatemala. M. 8 reales. Parte de brillo original. Rara y más así. EBC-/EBC. (eight reales of 1791, Guatemala mint, some luster, rare, about extremely fine.)"

This coin shows the standard bust of Charles IV as used throughout Latin America 1791-1808. This date is more common than the rare 1790 but scarcer than the later dates.
