Künker sale 403, lot 1388

This specimen was lot 1388 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,000 (about US$5,249 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST CLEMENS X., 1670-1676. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone del Giubileo 1675, Rom. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Papal States, Clement X, 1670-76, testone for the jubilee of 1675, Rome mint. Scarce in this quality, cabinet example, superb patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The SCWC notes four different testone for 1675 (KM 363, 364, 365, 366), all featuring the Holy Door on the reverse. KM 364 (shown here, door open) and KM 366 (door closed) have the papal arms on the obverse. KM 363 (door open) and KM 365 (door closed) have the papal bust on the obverse. In addition, the undated testone featuring king David (KM 350) was also struck in 1675. A pair of grossi also exist for the Holy Year, one with the door open (KM 360) and the other with the door closed. One piastra was three and a half testone.
