Papal States 1675 piastra Dav-4077
The first specimen was lot 1315 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, April 2010). The catalog description[1] noted, "VATICAN-PAPAL STATES. Clement X, 1670-1676. Piastra, 1675. Holy Year. Robed bust r. Rv. Interior of St. Peter's Basilica with Holy Door, Latin frieze DILIGIT. DNVS. PORTA. SION., the Lord has Loved the Gate of Zion. Splendid detail remains, enhancing the intricate design. Choice Extremely Fine. From the Eliasberg Collection." This date is a one year type struck in honor of the Holy Year declared by the Pope for 1675. Several other piastras (KM 368, 369, 370 and 371) were issued that year. The piastra was the Italian equivalent of the German thaler.
