This specimen was lot 5077 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €7,500 (about US$10,438 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

(kingdom of Sweden, Gustavus II Adolf, 1611-32, undated double ducat, probably Stockholm mint, on his death in the battle of Luetzen in November 1632 and the return of his body to Sweden in June 1643. Obverse: armored and mantled bust left; reverse: six line inscription, angel's head above. Extremely rare, mount mark, corrosion spots, very fine.)"

The Swedish king, regarded as the savior of Protestantism in Germany, was killed at the battle of Lützen in 1632. Many Protestant states and ciites issued coins and medals honoring him. Altho the auctioneers have listed this under Sweden, and it may have actually been made there, both Friedberg and the SCWC list this under Nurnberg. The auctioneers noted this as undated when it actually bears the date 1632, altho it may have been made later.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6,82 g.
